I photographed this European Starling on a very hot summer afternoon in Valley Forge Park. Although these starlings weren’t skittish, they maintained a healthy distance from me. The lens I was using, a 18-140mm, didn’t have enough reach resulting in a rather aggressive crop.
I feel very lukewarm about this photo. Looking back at my edits, I can see that the original image was quite under-exposed. I don’t recall the settings on my camera but I was likely going for a matrix-metered exposure – so the camera exposed the background grass right but not the bird.
