I photographed this Great Blue Heron at Peace Valley. At one end of the park is a small bridge overlooking a shallow section of Galena Lake. On the day, this individual was stalking its prey quite close to the bridge – surprisingly ignorant of us (and several other visitors to the park). Unfortunately, during the hunt an unruly visitor startled the heron by loudly clapping his hands. I’ve yet to see any herons around the bridge since.
The exposure and sharpness of this image are perfect – the angle however is not. I wish I were somehow level with the bird. Perhaps if I had a longer lens, I could’ve stood further away reducing this effect. It would’ve been great if the hunt had gone through – photographs of birds in motion look so much better.
